This unit, Work Legally and Ethically, provides an exploration of the Australian legal system and ethical frameworks, aimed at enhancing your understanding and application of legal and ethical principles in a professional setting. You'll start by delving into the structure and operation of the Australian legal system, understanding different types of law and their implications on various work roles. This foundation will enable you to confidently navigate and apply key workplace policies and legislation.


As you progress, the unit will guide you through the intricacies of working ethically, addressing privacy, confidentiality, and ethical decision-making. You'll engage with modules that foster your ability to manage ethical dilemmas, understand the overlap between legal obligations and ethical responsibilities, and participate in continuous improvement practices within your organisation. By the end of this unit, you'll possess a firm understanding of both the legal and ethical landscapes and be equipped with practical skills to uphold integrity and make informed decisions in your professional life.

The Australian Legal System - In this module, you'll explore the basics of the Australian legal system, examining how the legal system operates and why it's important to understand its impact on both personal and professional levels. You'll look at the structure of Australian courts, different types of law, and how these relate to various work roles, including interpreting legal requirements.


Working Ethically - In this module, you'll learn the essentials of ethics and working ethically. You'll explore key issues like privacy breaches, confidentiality obligations, and various disclosure scenarios, alongside understanding child protection and industry-specific duties of care. We'll also cover workplace discrimination laws, health and safety regulations, and effective breach management. By the end of this module, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to handle sensitive information responsibly and uphold ethical standards in your professional environment.


Legal and Ethical Frameworks - In this module, you'll delve into the relationship between legal frameworks and ethical responsibilities, highlighting the importance of upholding integrity in your professional life. We'll examine the sources that inform ethical duties, including human rights and the roles of the Fair Work Commission and the Ombudsman, and explore how to effectively convey, interpret, and implement these responsibilities in the workplace.


Ethical Decision-Making - In this module, you'll explore ethical dilemmas and learn how to navigate them by aligning your values and attitudes with ethical decision-making practices. You'll learn to recognise and manage conflicts of interest and develop strategies for preventing unethical conduct.


Policy Reviews and Continuous Improvement - In this module, you'll focus on enhancing ethical practices within your organisation and exploring the importance of continuous improvement to uphold integrity and trust.
