Volunteer Involving Organisations Online Accessibility Survey

Modified on Wed, 27 Nov at 5:06 PM

The volunteering landscape is changing around us. Technology is important in ensuring volunteers and organisations remain informed, connected, and can access the support they need.

The Volunteering Peak Bodies engaged Survey Matters to conduct the VIO Online Accessibility Survey from March to April 2023. 636 Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs) provided feedback about digital capacity and capability.

The research report provides a greater understanding of Volunteer Involving Organisations’ (VIOs) online accessibility. It will inform recommendations to improve online accessibility and address barriers.

Findings from the report include:

  • A clear digital divide between metropolitan and rural organisations
  • Costs are a barrier to upgrading digital systems
  • Three in five VIOs are positive about their digital capacity
  • Barriers to online engagement include lack of time, resources and funding
  • Nine in ten VIOs indicate online volunteer management resources would be useful to their organisation.
