The Social Media Policy is an outline of what content is acceptable for it's volunteers or staff when such content is related to your organisation.
Having a social media policy is important for several reasons:
- Professionalism: A well-defined policy ensure communications are consistent and align with the oranisation's values and mission, helping maintain a professional image.
- Legal Compliance: Organisations must comply with various legal requirements such as The Privacy Act and defamation laws. A well-written social media policy helps ensure compliance and helps to protect the organisation from potential legal issues.
- Crisis Management: In the case of negative comments or misinformation, a social media policy provides a framework for responding quickly and effectively, helping reduce damage to reputation
- Empowering Staff and Volunteers: Clear guidelines empower responsible and effective use of social media, knowing what is expected and how to handle different situations.
This policy applies to any social media post that is connected to the organisation and it's workers any time they make posts in any way related to their organisation.
